I realize not every new coach or consultant can afford to hire someone to help launch their show. So I created this podcast as a way to guide you through the process of launching and utilizing your very own podcast to help you grow your business and reach a new audience of adoring followers and potential clients. If you're ready to get your voice and podcast out into the world, head over to podcasting for coaches.com to learn more. Welcome to the first official episode of The podcasting for coaches podcast. I want to start off this show, basically, in general, with an explanation of why podcasting is something that you should absolutely consider for your coaching or consulting business. So in this episode, I'm going to give you cold, hard facts and statistics and data to prove why podcasting is huge for coaches and consultants. So according to the 2017 podcast consumer report, put out by Edison research, and this report is basically like the holy grail of podcast statistics. There is some very interesting data that supports my claims of why a podcast is something that you should do. So according to this report, 112 million Americans have listened to a podcast. And this is actually an 11% increase from 2016. So just think about that 112 million people are consuming content in a way that you are not taking advantage of right now. 67 million Americans listen on a monthly basis. This is a 14% increase since 2016. And 42 million people listen on a weekly basis. This is 15% of the entire population of the United States. 15% of the entire country is consuming information in a way that you are not taking advantage of. So not only are you missing out on reaching all of these potential clients, but this data actually proves that podcasting is growing, there's been a steady growth with 10 to 20% increases each year. For the past few years. 50% of weekly listeners listened to at least three hours of podcast every single week. 48% of monthly podcast, consumers follow brands and companies on social media. So they follow the people that they support on other platforms, because they build that connection that bonds that trust, they fall in love with those hosts, and they want to connect with them further. Have the monthly listeners 44% are between the ages of 18 and 34 and 33% are between the ages of 35 and 54. So 77% of all podcast listeners are between 18 and 54. I'm willing to bet that your target client, your ideal client, your dream client is in that age range. of the monthly listeners 45% have a minimum household income of at least 75,000. Also of those monthly listeners 30% of them have a graduate degree, and 27% of them have a bachelor's degree. These are people who are committed to educating themselves. They are committed to learning more they are committed to making their lives better. 85% of all podcast listeners say that they listen to all or most of every single episode. That is huge. retaining their attention for however long your podcast episode is, is monumental. It's not like a Facebook video where they tune in for maybe the first 2030 seconds and then something else pops up on their feed. And they get distracted. When podcast listeners are consuming podcast content. They are focused, yes, they may be driving they may be doing housework. They may be doing dishes or walking their dog or working out at the gym. But they are committed to listening to what you have to say. The average podcast listener subscribes to six podcast and they listened to five episodes per week on average. That means that when people find podcasts they like they stick with them. They are loyal to those people. If the podcast host is regularly and consistently putting out content, the listener returns week after week after week. Another important thing to note here is that business ad spend so companies and corporations who are putting ads in podcast episodes has increased dramatically in 2015 business adspend was $69 million in 2017 $220 million. What is it that these businesses and these Corporations know that you don't. They know that podcast listeners are loyal, and they take action. That is exactly the type of person you want consuming your content. You don't want people want a mailing list who are never going to open your emails, you want people who are just going to crave and consume what you have to say, and what you have to offer. So beyond those statistics, let's talk about the more kind of broad general reasons why a podcast is fantastic for your coaching or consulting business. It builds trust and authority, which I'm going to dive more into why that is in next week's episode. But for right now, I'm just gonna say that that's what it does. And next week, you'll learn why. But it also provides evergreen content. In putting these episodes out there and putting the show notes on your website, you're generating more content, you're being in more places. You don't have to come up with a blog post every week, you can sit and record a podcast episode. And then you have a podcast, and something for a newsletter and something for your website. And if you record videos and turn those into podcasts, guess what? You've got video content for YouTube as well. So it just gives you so much evergreen content to work with. You can record episodes with questions that you always get from your audience. And then from that point on, instead of typing out an answer every time or responding to each one individually, you can point them to this podcast episode that you did on it. And beyond that even you're going to reach new people. Like I mentioned earlier, 42 million people listen to podcasts on a weekly basis. Are you reaching 42 million people on Facebook? Probably not. If you are great, that's fantastic. And a podcast can still help you. Are you going to reach 42 million in your podcast? Absolutely not. And I will discuss that later in the show where we're going to talk about realistic expectations for a podcast. However, there is a new audience to reach. People tend to stick to the platforms they love most people on Facebook love frigging Facebook, people on Instagram, love Instagram, people on Pinterest, love Pinterest and people on YouTube. Love YouTube people on Snapchat, love Snapchat, you get the point. The thing is podcast listeners freaking love podcast. They love love love them. They rave about them, they share them. They consume them like crazy. People who listen to podcasts are very loyal to their platform, and the hosts they love. So those are some general reasons as to why you should be taking advantage of this thing called podcasting. In the next episode, I am going to be talking about exactly how a podcast helps you with your coaching and consulting business. So this explains why you need to get on the podcast bandwagon. Next week, I'm going to explain how it serves the purpose that I say it serves, and that data says it serves. So make sure that you don't miss that episode. And thank you so much for tuning in today. I hope you have a fantastic day. And that wraps up another episode of podcasting for coaches.
